What got you here? How did you start your business?

If you could meet yourself at the very beginning stages of starting a business, what advice would you give?

Make the business sellable from the day you open the doors and have an exit strategy too. Too many business owners are just winging it. Winging it is much more expensive than executing a viable plan of action.
Ineffective advertising is a waste of your time and robs you of your profits to build up someone else's bottom line. Advertising must give you a return on investment (ROI). If you don't now how to get ROI on your advertising get help fast!

What is the one thing you see business owners spending time and money on that you don’t think they need to?

Was there a major turning point in the success of your business? If so, what do you attribute that too?

Watching the towers fall on 911 changed us all. I saw thousands of people with families die very publicly as the world watched and countless businesses also died that day impacting even more generations yet to be born. I changed my business forever to be able to be back in business within 24 hours from anywhere if my location was compromised for any reason. Could your business, be back in business, 24-72 hours after a flood, hurricane, wild fire, explosion or other disaster? Mine will be even if it is miles, states or continents away when the disaster strikes.

What does success look like to you?

Touching your own dreams while you enrich others emotionally, financially and change lives for the better in the process.

What is your least favorite part of being a business owner?

Evaluating competent contractors for specific projects- it takes time to secure the talent that is a good fit for the projects you need completed on time, well and at a reasonable price. The first gig is the beginning or end of a potentially long term business relationship for me.

What do you outsource in your business? When did you know it was time to outsource?

I engage top level training consistently to get me to my goals faster. I engage professionals for about any project I can through freelance platforms to have a world of talent at my fingertips. I constantly build a pool of talent I can rely on. I quickly outsource those items that I do not have the talent pool on hand to do.

Do you have any daily practices or routines you find really helpful as a business owner?

never ignore email for a day- it multiplies too fast to catch up if you wait a week or even a few days. I complete at least 3-5 things on my every changing to do list every day. I book to do's and future events on my calendar even years out to make certain important things do not fall through the cracks of everyday living.

How did the pandemic impact your business?

I lost all my in person teaching gig contracts. It gave me a break to refocus and change directions in other areas. I chose to leverage it as an opportunity.
